Introduction
Since ancient artisans first unlocked the secrets of smelting copper, humans have expressed their artistic impulse
in this most versatile metal. Artist Woody Woodill adds a new chapter to this venerable tradition with his amazingly
colored abstracts. The abstracts are a combination of natural patinas and transparent acrylics. Hues of gold, orange,
red, brown, blue and green combine in an organic synthesis of natural patinas. Transparent acrylics are used as accents
in contrast to the natural patinas. They reflect light with a stained glass effect. Artist Woody Woodill designs his
pieces around the viewer's experience. The success of a piece is judged by how long it holds the viewer's eye.
Color and Design
The design and colors of the copper abstracts are achieved by a combination of heating and cooling processes and
applied transparent acrylics.
The base colors are natural patinas. Hues of brown, red, orange, gold, green and blue are the result of the natural
oxidation process that occurs when heating and cooling the copper. Transparent acrylics are used as accents in
contrast to the natural patinas. They reflect light with a stained glass effect.
The designs reflect both the natural beauty of the patinas and the desire of the human mind to see shapes and patterns.
The experience of the viewer is intended to be personal and reflective. The artist’s hand should only be visible in
the signature.
Available Sizes
The copper abstracts are available in eleven (11) standard sizes. Sizes are for the art only and do not include the frame.
Add three (3) inches to both dimensions when mounted to the indoor flat black frame. Add one (1) inch to both dimensions
when mounted to the outdoor brushed black aluminum frame. Please inquire for custom sizes.

Framing
For indoor applications the copper abstracts come attached to a
recycled flat black frame.
For outdoor applications the copper abstracts come attached to a
brushed black aluminum frame.
Please inquire about a handmade antiqued copper frame option.
The copper abstracts feature a rolled hem border allowing pieces to be displayed as is. The
copper abstracts can be mounted in a variety of frame styles with adhesives or mechanical
fasteners. The copper abstracts can be bent slightly without affecting the finish.
Lighting
The copper abstracts are designed to be displayed in light. The reflective qualities of the copper
allow for radical changes in both the color and aspect of the abstracts depending on the lighting used.
Both natural and manmade light can achieve this. Typically the copper abstracts are best viewed in a
high contrast lighting scheme.
Installation | Maintenance
-
Indoor Applications
-
The copper abstracts can be installed using anchoring systems found at a local home store.
The abstracts weigh approximately 16oz per square foot (not including frame).
-
The copper abstracts can be dusted with a non-scratch cloth. Use a mild detergent such
as window cleaner and a non-scratch cloth to remove smudges. Wipe using long gentle
vertical strokes. Do not use a circular buffing motion
-
Outdoor Applications
-
The copper abstracts can be displayed outdoors. The finish provides a high degree of
protection from moisture, sunlight and temperature changes. The natural patinas are
permanent and will not change under normal conditions. The transparent acrylics are
lightfast but should be protected by an automotive paint protector (Diamond Shield
is recommended) if displayed directly in the elements. ****Do not buff the
copper abstracts. Use long gentle vertical strokes to remove excess protector****
Finish
Artist Woody Woodill's copper abstracts are available in a High Gloss
or Low Gloss finish. The finish provides
a high degree of protection from moisture, sunlight and temperature changes.
