Installation

  • Temporary Installation
    • The Copper Sculptures can be temporarily installed by pushing the pointed feet into suitable soil. Do not hammer on the copper frame of the sculpture. Push firmly from the top middle of the copper frame. This type of installation is only recommended for short-term applications.
  • Semi-Permanent Installation
    • Once a suitable site has been chosen, the Copper Sculptures can be installed using a do-it-yourself semi-permanent method.
    • Before installing the sculpture consult with your local utility companies and the building department of your local government.
    • Place the sculpture in the desired position, marking the ground where the feet touch. Using a mallet or sledgehammer, drive two 24"x1.5" inner diameter galvanized steel pipes into the ground at the marked spots. (Use longer pipes if the soil is soft or unstable.) Leave approximately 10" of the pipes above grade. Use a bullet level to keep the pipes plumb as you drive them into the ground. Remove the pipes and clean out the centers. Reinsert the pipes into the holes and drive the pipes until they are slightly above grade. Tamp the ground around the pipes. Fill the pipes with sand until the sculpture is at the desired height. (At least 12" of the sculpture’s feet should be in the pipe.) Insert the feet of the sculpture into the pipes. Fill in around the feet with sand.

Care and Maintenance

The Copper Sculptures are made from 24-gauge copper supported by a powder coated 14-gauge steel frame. The center copper art is coated with a gloss protective finish. The copper frame is unfinished and will gradually develop a green patina.

A once yearly application of an automotive paint protector (Diamond Shield) is recommended to maintain the clear finish on the art. This product is a simple wipe on wipe off application. Remove the excess protector with a non-scratch cloth using long gentle vertical strokes. Do not use a circular buffing motion. For harsher climates or areas that demand more protection apply more often.

A mild detergent such as window cleaner can be used to remove smudges. Wipe clean with a non-scratch cloth using long gentle vertical strokes. Do not use a circular buffing motion.
